Brighton

It’s amazing what a blast of coastal air can do for your wellbeing. A surge of endorphins and a spa always helps (in our experience…)

But there’s no need to jet off to a Balearic island. Look instead to the seaside resort town of Brighton. A mere one hour train ride from London.

Amusement arcades aside, this town is known for its burgeoning arts scene. And is a growing wellness destination with its own marathon, multiple studios and health cafes.

With the Brighton Fringe Festival coming up (5 May – 4 June 2017), there’s all the more reason to visit.

If you’re making a day of it, why not factor in some healthy activities along the way. Here’s some inspiration…

Brighton
Photo: Yellowave

Yellowave

What: A friendly beach sports venue offering volleyball and other sand-based sports for all ages and abilities. Go barefoot, have a laugh and meet new people as you learn from the experts and get stuck into a match. In addition to regular classes, the courts and pitches can be reserved for personal use including stag/hen parties.

Where: 299 Madeira Drive, Brighton BN21EN

Tip: If you see yourself as more of a spectator, take a pew on the decking. Or venture inside Yellowave’s Barefoot café for a light bite, coffee, juice or something stronger.

Foodilic

What: A rustic all-day eatery well equipped to satisfy those hunger pangs. Peruse a huge range of fresh and reasonably priced food. Beware as there are many (*too many) tasty options to choose from, all catering to the veggie, non-veggie or vegan.

Where: 163 Western Road, Brighton BN12BB

Tip: Fancy a coffee and a cake? Why not tuck into one of Foodilic’s home-made pastries or raw desserts. In fact, have two – depending on how hard you worked on the volleyball pitch of course!

Brighton Harbour Hotel

Harbour Hotel & Spa

What: An underground hideaway located just a hop, skip and a jump from the sea front. Step away from the busy street and into the Harbour Hotel to explore an impressive two-storey basement spa. Relax and unwind in your robe whilst making the most of facilities. These include an indoor pool, ‘togetherness’ hot tubs, rest beds and sauna/steam rooms. Book a spa treatment prior to arrival!

Where: 64 Kings Road, Brighton, BN111NA

Tip: Try the hotel’s ‘HarBAR’ for a post spa cocktail and take in the panoramic views of the sea.

Dynamic Hot Yoga

What: A spacious studio located just a short taxi ride away from the city centre. The venue offers 60 and 90 minute classical hot yoga classes designed to increase blood flow and get the heart pumping.

Try a 90 minute class with Chloe and leave feeling calm, empowered and a little red faced! The team is super friendly and the facilities are lovely and clean.

Where: Top Floor, Unit 9 Hove Business Centre, Hove BN3 6HA

Tip: In an unusual location but easy enough to find via taxi. Mats and towels can be hired and you can order a smoothie post class.
