Hotpod Yoga Brixton

We work hard, we play hard but sometimes wouldn’t it be nice to step inside a warm cocoon, escape the world and emerge feeling relaxed and empowered – cue Hotpod Yoga. An otherworldly inflatable yoga experience housed inside a heated purple pod.

While permanent Hotpod homes can be found throughout the UK, South Africa, Netherlands, Portugal and Romania, pop up versions can inflate just about anywhere from the Austrian ski slopes to music festivals.

Tonight, we’re settling with Brixton. Hotpod Yoga’s third permanent pod in London (the other two are based in Notting Hill and Hackney)

Enter through a bright, spacious reception area where you can hire towels, buy a bottle of water and store your belongings. There are even a couple of showers on site if you fancy making dinner plans (Naughty Piglets is a 3 minute walk away).

With the pod zipped shut, you’ll be transported to another world, guided by dim-lighting, hypnotic scents and downtempo beats.

We tried a 60 minute Vinyasa flow class with Lauren Fraser. A steady practice that fuses balance and core work with strengthening postures. Although the class is busy, it doesn’t feel overcrowded (the pod can hold up to 20 people). There’s still space for Lauren to weave her way around offering support to first timers and modifications for experienced yogis.

The 37 degree heat certainly helps you to melt into postures but feels nowhere near as hot as Bikram. If you’re left dripping in sweat, hop in the shower and head back to the station – via a leisurely stopover in Brixton Village of course.

Just remember to pack a towel and a big bottle of water!
