the melody effect

You may recognise this exotic brunette from Bodyism in Westbourne grove, Sangye Yoga School in Kensal Rise or Triyoga in Camden.

Her powerful yet nurturing classes are fused with chanting, meditation and magical balms that have cast a spell over us at DOSE. If you haven’t experienced the Melody effect yet – you should.

Here she talks about swapping late nights managing bars and restaurants for running yoga retreats in Bali…

Jivamukti yoga. How does this differ from other types of yoga?

Jivamukti is a vinyasa style practice where the asana is usually quite vigorous. Each class has a theme which is explored through yoga scripture, chanting, meditation, asana, pranayama (breathing technique) and music. It appeals to people who want more than a good workout.

Tell us about those amazing balms…

I use China gel at the beginning of the class. China gel is a natural unique herbal formula of time proven ingredients that helps to relax the muscles and relieve pain. At the end of the class, I usually use an Ayurvedic shea butter to massage the neck and shoulders, which releases any tension still left in the body.

When did you become a yoga instructor?

I did my teacher training with Sharon Gannon and David Life in 2012.

What were you doing before you became a yoga instructor?

I was working in hospitality managing restaurants and bars for many years and the late nights were becoming unbearable. I later became a receptionist at the Jivamukti yoga centre in London where I eventually did my training.

What studios in London do you teach at?

I’m currently teaching at Bodyism in Westbourne grove, Sangye Yoga School in Kensal Rise and Triyoga in Camden.

Are you running or working at any retreats abroad this year?

I’m excited about my Bali retreat towards the end of May (20th – 28th) in Ubud. Expect a week of sweat, long practices in the morning and deeply restorative meditation evenings in the Jungle above a Water Temple.
