Let’s be honest, hurling ourselves through punishing sets of interval sprints and burpees doesn’t leave a lot of time for introspection. How can we possibly contemplate anything when fleeing the jaws of a big, hungry mammoth… which is all we’re really doing, right? This self-imposed state of fight or flight might feel thrilling (and great for muscle toning) but it’s utterly mindless. But what if gym training wasn’t just physical? What if classes were more like puzzles that didn’t work your biceps, but the most important organ of all. Your brain?
Enter The Cerebral Gym. Founded by James Vogl, a former professional backgammon and poker player who won a World Series of Poker bracelet at the age of 23. After a successful career in finance, he got the idea for Cerebral Gym when his PT surprised him by taking up Mandarin instead of competing in an Ironman. Not such a meat head after all!
Now he’s offering you the chance to sharpen your memory not your abs by swapping HIIT classes for backgammon and bridge.
Held at The House of St Barnabas in Soho London, Cerebral Gym’s launch day on Sunday May 13th will showcase world class speakers and invite guests to try classes and challenge themselves to something new… whether learning how to play bridge in an hour or meditating for the first time. We like the sound of having a massage whilst listening to a curated podcast session.
