Since Shadowbox exploded onto the boutique fitness market in NYC, we have witnessed a swathe of pay-as-you-go boxing gyms emerge on the scene.
The intense full body workout with interval training, bag work and body weight drills set to music has proved a major hit for Londoners looking to channel their inner Adrianna Lima and Gigi Hadid (forget Mohammed Ali – save that for the real boxing gyms).
1Rebel were one of the first to bring the trendy workout to London – launching Rumble at their studio in Broadgate circle, with the tagline ‘Let’s get Ready to Rumble’ (not to be confused with Ant & Dec’s correction PJ & Duncan’s) 90’s smash hit. It’s in fact a reference ring announcer Michael Buffer’s signature catchphrase (which he trademarked in the 80’s).
The 45-minute round of cardio boxing and mixed martial arts set to a killer playlist will no doubt leave you feeling like a badass. If you like to mix it up, try ‘Rounds’ – 60 minutes of intervals between Rumble and ReShape and if your hands aren’t shaking for hours afterwards, they’ll credit your session back. Boxing gloves can be rented from reception for £1 and wraps are £3 (to keep).
Not a fan of boxing? Opt for a pure ReShape class. A Barry’s style half treadmill, half floor, 45-minute blast of physical and mental intensity.
With some of the best changing rooms in the business, make use of the fluffy towels, beauty amenities and GHD’s before starting the day. Beany Green do a great Aussie style brunch packed with eggs, avocado, salmon and rye, or pick up a ‘grab and go’ box of nutritional goodness from The Good Yard.
