When in London, in search of a good curry, one usually makes a beeline for Brick Lane. But it’s often hard to tell the good curry houses from the bad. To make life easier, we’ve rounded up some of London’s best Indian eateries packed full of flavour, with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy-free options…

Best for… a business breakfast

Get those creative juices flowing first thing with a visit to this Bombay cafe. Feast on eggs on chilli cheese toast, a Bombay omelette or a bacon and egg naan roll, washed down with a nice warming, comforting chai. Vegans can opt for the Vegan Bombay with vegan sausages, vegan black pudding, grilled field mushrooms, masala baked beans, grilled tomato, home-made buns and avocado with chilli and lime dressing. Too good.

Best for… all day brunch & chai

The Camden Market chai specialists, serve up traditionally brewed chai and delicious eats from India and Sri Lanka and are one of the few places in London where you can find Lamprais – traditional Sri Lankan curry – wrapped and baked in banana leaf. Their Brinjal Moju Lamprais, a sweet and spicy aubergine curry is a vegan favourite. You’ll also find vegan chais and lattes.

KAHANI

Best for… a dinner date

The new restaurant by Peter Joseph, ex-head chef of Michelin-starred Tamarind promises to redefine Indian dining. Kahani, meaning ‘story’ in Urdu, combines Peter’s passion for British ingredients with his upbringing in Tamil Nadu. Seasonality and sustainability are at the core of Kahani’s philosophy. Dishes set for the menu include: Smoked Malabar prawns with coconut and Keralan spices, Gressingham duck with coriander, apple chutney served with a kumquat salad, as well as a revolutionary melt-in-the-middle rose and pistachio cheesecake. A range of vegan dishes are also available.
