It’s January and now you’re back to the grind you’re telling yourself it’s time to crush your health and fitness goals. Start by giving these weird, quirky and cool exercises classes a go…

Swordplay

Gymbox is kicking off January with another creative addition to its timetable in the form of Wushu-style sword fighting. Taught by movie stunt man Vitas Lebas, who trained FKA Twigs for her on-stage performances, you’ll flow through a combination of sword moves set to music – like your very own Tarantino film. As you learn to move and sway like a real fighter, the heavy wooden sword will ensure you feel the burn. Visit gymbox.com

Killing Kittens Box vs Bass

Killing Kittens, the posh sex party brand, has teamed up with New Motion Fitness to host its first social of the year. Join in with a high-intensity boxing class with pumping music from a live DJ. Afterward, you’ll head to the Vauxhall Street Food Garden for some well-deserved grub and drinks.

January 28th, 7.30pm. 6a South Lambeth Pl, London, SW8 1SP. Tickets £20. Visit killingkittens.com/event-information/?event_id=1015

Dater-cise

Think speed dating for fitness lovers with a couple of mocktails thrown in. The event starts with a quick warm-up followed by the chance to bond over a series of exercises over 45 minutes, tailored for couples and led by an experienced personal trainer. After each exercise is finished, you have a few minutes to catch your breath and talk to each person before moving on to the next.

Every 2nd Thursday of the month, 7.30pm-9pm. Right Path Fitness studio, 20 Gravel Lane, Liverpool Street, London, E1 7AW. Tickets £25. Visit designmynight.com/london/whats-on/dating/date-ercise

Noga

Branded as ‘yoga without the yoga’, this unique new hybrid class by The Fore will lower your cortisol levels without any of the Sanskrit or the OMs. NOGA unlocks the benefits of conscious breathing while using the TRX to increase mobility, develop core strength and correct posture. Drop-in class £20. Visit the-fore.co.uk

Spinboxx and dine

Gym not your thing? How about a workout in London’s cosy secret garden tucked away in the backstreets of Kensington? London Secret Garden has joined forces with Spinboxx to host a 45-minute workout every Friday morning throughout January that fuses boxing, spin and circuits. The class takes place in a heated tent and is followed by a healthy breakfast and smoothie in the ‘dining domes’.

Every Friday from 10th – 31st January, 8am. 100 Cromwell Road, London, SW7 4ER. Tickets £65 (includes workout, breakfast and smoothie). Visit londonsecretgarden.co.uk/spinboxx
