Are tweakments the new treatments?

Beauty

Invasive beauty treatments might be effective but they’re potentially dangerous, costly, and require some serious downtime. Plus, the results are permanent, and you may not be thrilled with them. So before going down that route – or to help avoid it entirely – many are turning to tweakments instead…

What is a tweakment?

“The newly invented ‘tweakment’ has been taken by some to mean a less aggressive form of cosmetic treatment, which causes a minor tweak in the appearance. Tweakments mostly relate to non-surgical aesthetic treatments with low risk and minimal downtime that only slightly improve appearance. ‘Baby-botox’, ‘micro filler’, ‘light laser’ and ‘no-downtime peels’, could all be considered to be ‘tweakments’, says Dr David Jack.

He goes on, “in my opinion, the biggest ‘tweakments’ on the market at the moment are Botox and fillers. Plus, other injectables, like the injectable moisturiser Profhilo are getting a lot of interest. Most patients seeking ‘tweakments’ are seeking quick treatments that can be done within 30 minutes or so. Tweakments such as the non-surgical nose job and jawline filler for men are gaining significant popularity, mostly influenced by social media.”

HydraFacial

This gives a serious glow, a deep cleanse, and no downtime. Performed at several clinics, Dr Nima uses HydraDermabrasion to flush out the skin – a gentle, vacuum-like technology cleans out pores and infuses the skin with moisture for a plumper, dewier, look. Plus, it can help smooth fine lines  and wrinkles. You can add on a quick round of LED light therapy – blue light helps rid the face of acne and red light helps calm the skin – or a PERK lip treatment to exfoliates lips before encouraging them to swell up with suction.

The EDGE

This tweakment by Mr Golchin involves Botox or filler applied sparingly, only around the EDGE of the face. Known among certain circles as the Knightsbridge Lift, Mr Golchin believes doctors put so many fillers in the centre of the face that the face ends up looking centre heavy. He injects only at the periphery, leaving you with full expression, laugh and smile lines, but tightening and removal of the dreaded jowls.

Meso-tox

Go to Dr Jack for this one, a unique combination of mesotherapy and Botox. It combines small, superficial injections of Botox with a mesotherapy blend of vitamins and hyaluronic acid. Unlike traditionally injected Botox which goes deep into the muscles of facial expression, meso-tox is only injected into the upper layer of the dermis.

There, it acts on the sweat and oil glands of the skin to reduce their activity and help reduce their appearance. When combined with a mesotherapy blend, the hydration and texture of skin can be improved significantly, and give a mild lift. Plus, there is virtually no risk of the ‘frozen face’ look of overdone Botox as the treatment uses only tiny doses. Effects should last around three months.

Teeth bonding

AKA Shellac for your teeth, this is the quickest way to anti-age your smile, thanks to Dr Rhona Eskander. Composite resin is shaped and moulded on your teeth to give the appearance of a straighter, whiter smile. It can help with chipped teeth, gapped teeth and staining, and can be completed in one appointment. It also doesn’t involve damage or cutting down of the teeth. Win win.

Diamond Polish

You could also head to Smilepod for its high gloss Diamond Polish treatment, a deep clean that removes surface stains. Akin to whitening, it can take around seven years off your teeth – and that’s worth smiling about.

Cristal Ice

Dr Galyna Selezneva at Dr Rita Rakus Clinic uses Cryolipolysis, a non-invasive method developed by scientists at Harvard Medical School, to minimise fat deposits by freezing the area. A cold vacuum applicator cools the target area for about 70 minutes, until close to freezing. While it can be a bit uncomfortable, it’s not bad enough to need anaesthesia and there is no downtime. Fat cells start to die off when they are cooled to 4C or less, and these dead cells will be excreted from the body. Expect up to 30 per cent of fat in the treated area to vanish over the next 12 weeks.

PRP for under eyes

This injection treatment helps reduce eye bags and make your eyes look younger. Dr Golchin (him again) injects fat stem cells from your own body under the eyes, where it helps with dark circles and hollowness. Results last for 12-18 months.

So, is tweaking not treating for you? It’s certainly food for thought…
