Balance Festival guide for first-timers

 Why Trust Us

Disclosure

For fitness aficionados and mindful millenials, Balance Festival is the highlight of the year. The three-day fitness and wellness event is the biggest of its kind in the UK and it returns to London’s Old Truman Brewery next weekend (May 10th-12th 2019).

But it can be pretty overwhelming, especially if you’re a first-timer, so here’s some tips on how to get the most out of the festival experience…

Plan your day

All the big-hitting boutique studios send in their top trainers for this event, including the likes of Barry’s Bootcamp, Boom Cycle, Third Space and F45. Over the three days there will be 150+ workouts, so we advise studying the schedule beforehand. Planning in advance is key to enable you to use your time wisely – some classes need to be pre-booked online, while others you can drop into on the day. Oh, and don’t forget to bring a sweat towel!

Don’t miss: The signature classes by festival newbies KXU (The Games) and Blok (Blok Strength and Blok Party).

Step out of your comfort zone

There’s no better way to sample the best of London’s fitness and wellness scene all under one roof than Balance Festival. Whether you’re curious about meditation or wonder what it’s like to step into Barry’s red room of pain, this is your chance to give something new a go. The boutique taster classes costs £5 but there’s a bunch of free sessions like beginner yoga in the MINDBODY studio.

Don’t miss: Frame is merging yoga and Elton John for a special workshop and it sounds fab. While, you can strike poses to 80s beats with House of Voga.

Meet your idols

You’ll have the chance to get up close and personal with world-class fitness trainers, celebrity chefs and awe-inspiring yogis. Festival headliners include Kelsey Wells, Zanna Van Dijk, Alice Living, Carly Rowena, Healthy Chef Steph, Annie Clarke and Michael James Wong.

Don’t miss: The Serotonin Boosting Workout with Soul Sisters is right up our street. It promises a 30-minute full body blast with a flood of feel-good endorphins.

Where can I refuel?

Begin your day with a coffee at the Refuel Café and then graze your way around The Market sampling products from all the latest healthy food and drink brands – we’re talking protein bars, raw chocolate, Kombucha and much more. If you haven’t eaten your weight in guilt-free treats, head to The Balanced Kitchen for lunch where you’ll find pop-up eateries such as Kaleido Rolls.

Don’t miss: Free smoothie bowls from Almond Breeze before 12pm from the Breakfast Bar in Refuel Café.

And what if I just want to chill?

Make a beeline for the Meditation Dome, which is a zen haven away from the festival chaos. The blissful line-up features gong baths, mindful chocolate tasting and breath workshops. Or how about a little pampering? Skin Wellness Clinic by Murad will be offering complimentary 20-minute facials.

Don’t miss: Just Breathe Presents: An Austrian Tea Ceremony and Sound Bath. We’re intrigued…
