The concept
I can’t believe I just found out about this facial now. While it’s called Hair of the Dog and really does work magic after a big night, it’s great on any day for any occasion. It takes an hour, there’s no downtime and it’s seriously effective when it comes to brightening and glow.
The process
The two main components are oxygen and LED. Downstairs in one of the luxe treatment rooms at beauty destination Young LDN, my skin is cleansed using Dr Pugliese cleanser, which works with one’s circadian body rhythm.
Next, an oxygen gel that is mixed with enzymes is applied. It is rubbed thoroughly into my face where it starts to tingle, due to the active ingredients, my therapist tells me. She rubs it in thoroughly to help activate it, before spraying on different activators, massaging thoroughly in between each.
One activator encourages oxidisation and one is an enzyme activator which helps exfoliate – it includes papaya, which helps bring oxygen into the cells. The third is a PH equaliser, followed by a citric spray to tighten the pores. As each is rubbed in, it creates friction, which helps to push the oxygen in deeper. The purpose of the oxygen is decongesting and brightening.
The next step is gua sha, facial lymphatic drainage using a jade stone. It draws out all the toxins and leave me with a tight, defined looking jaw. And finally, some vitamin C serum is applied – it contains magnesium phosphate which prevents free radicals.
During the treatment, my face felt tingly and tight, but not unpleasantly so. In fact, post big night out, this treatment – an hour of me-time that is both relaxing and hard-working – would be the dream. And the results speak for themselves – tight, bright and plump skin.
