Checking in at The Langley

 Why Trust Us

Just 45 minutes away from London, total rest, relaxation and luxury await at The Langley. Shara checks in…

The hotel

Now, I have nothing against Marriott hotels, but The Langley, which is owned by Marriott, simply doesn’t feel like one. It is super, super luxurious. It opened following a six-year renovation alongside Dennis Irvine Studio, and makes the most of its prestigious location and history.

The hotel is situated in the former manor home of the third Duke of Marlborough, and 150 acres of formal gardens and parklands were designed by Capability’ Brown. The surrounding area feels like total countryside with fabulous walking trails – and yet it’s just 45 minutes away from London. Buckinghamshire is gorgeous and it is the easiest weekend away I’ve ever had.

There are 41 rooms and our suite is so vast I could move into it, and it offers old-school likely. There are Hermes bathroom products and a separate living room, and wonderful views.

The spa

Again, it’s super spacious and is one of the best spas, this close to London, I’ve ever seen.
The hotel has a brilliant 90 minute signature treatment. It uses natural products and includes both a facial and back massage, and is long enough that you totally relax into it.

There’s a rose-infused steam room, a salt-infused sauna and multiple jacuzzis and mood showers. This is a spa to wallow in.

Should you wish, you could hit the gym. Designed by superstar trainer Matt Roberts, it’s ultra swanky. I have a PT session with Tom which I highly recommend. He creates a good varied workout that lasts an hour, totally tailoring it to my current injury.

The food

The dining room is gorgeous, with a wonderful fireplace, lavish wallpaper and chandelier-esque lighting. Food showcases British produce and our dinner is indulgent: we dine on scallops, ravioli and halibut with truffle. It’s all super tasty and we are able to take wine up to our room afterwards for a treat.

There are al fresco dining options too and afternoon tea also looks lovely. Taken in the Drawing Room complete with velvet sofas, it is traditional and charming. The Churchill Bar is where you go for cocktails and cigars.

The verdict

It is worth noting that The Langley is just 20 minutes away from Heathrow, so it’s perfect for a pre-flight night if you don’t fancy the Holiday Inn. If you have the budget to stay here instead, you won’t regret it.

Charlotte is a London girl through and through. She sweats through spin and puffs through Pilates to justify trying the latest restaurants and devouring copious amounts of sweet potato fries, burrata and bread – preferably on holiday. Her favourite destinations include Italy, the Maldives and anywhere where the sun’s shining and there’s a strong breakfast buffet. She’s obsessed with walking, visiting farmers’ markets and reading. She’s also learning to cook. Wish her (and her husband) luck.
