Marathons are hard work – physically and mentally. The training, the chafing, not to mention actually running 26.2 miles on race day. But why should it be? Surrey’s wine-filled Run Bacchus provides the perfect alternative…

Run through England’s green and pleasant land with wine on hand at this year’s Run Bacchus, Britain’s answer to the Marathon du Médoc.

The event, which is on the 9th of September, combines two of the world’s finest pleasures: running in the great outdoors and fine wine. It will be held in Dorking’s, Denbies Wine Estate, who this week were voted as one of the top five vineyards in the UK by, World Wine Week.

Participants can choose to take part in either the marathon, half-marathon or five-mile run/walk, all while enjoying Denbies premium range of delicious English wine and locally produced food at refreshment stations along the course.

“Run Bacchus is rapidly becoming a must-do event on Britain’s running calendar,” said race director at 2:09 Events Mike Gratton. “The wine and food stations set Run Bacchus apart from other events, however it’s also the fancy dress, scenic views of the rolling North Downs and numerous live bands that bring a unique festival atmosphere.”

The 26.2 mile course (which includes 12 ‘refreshment’ opportunities) is a two-loop run around the beautiful pre-harvest vineyard where grapes are bursting off the vines as well as the stunning National Trust countryside. The route is undulating and multi-terrain, but with a bias towards road.

The Half-Marathon is one lap of the marathon course, with six refreshment opportunities. The Five Mile run/walk visits one wine and food station.

A day out in the English countryside with complimentary wine and food, live music and a post-race hog roast is a modest £47.00 for marathon and half-marathon participants. This makes Run Bacchus the perfect activity for a girls-trip away, stag party or corporate challenge.

The entire event is limited to 2,700 runners so signing up early is crucial.

Run Bacchus also ensures race-day is catered to the entire family, with children able to participate in a Two-Mile Fun Run. Entry for the children’s event is free and each finisher will receive a medal.

Run Bacchus is a bucket-list event for all vibrant spirits and runners that are looking for a challenge as much as a joy-filled day.
