Duck and Waffle Local

When you think of Duck & Waffle, you probably think of luxurious settings, decadent food and a rather hefty bill. But Duck & Waffle Local has flipped that on its head, with this more casual, healthier offshoot that combines delicious ingredients with speed, accessibility and ease.

Moments from Piccadilly Circus you can breeze in off the street, order from the counter and be eating brunch, lunch or dinner within ten minutes. You can even opt for the takeaway menu and indulge at your desk (or at home if you’re really pushed for time).

With a rustic, informal setting and varied clientele – Duck & Waffle Local is worlds away from the glamour and exclusivity of its iconic original restaurant. But it has still managed to retain all of the quality and innovation at the heart of its menu.

The namesake dish is still the star of the show. A tender leg of duck resting on a golden, fluffy waffle. A fried egg precariously balanced on top. The whole thing smothered in… wait for it… maple syrup.

It’s ridiculous and amazing and probably one you don’t want to indulge in too often. But don’t worry – if you’re having a healthy week there are plenty of great options.

From the duck menu try the Grilled Duck Breast Satay. Two skewers of lean duck meat grilled in a sweet, peanut sauce on a bed of spiced quinoa.

Heavy on the coriander and liberally splashed with lime, this is a light and fragrant lunch that – although isn’t the largest portion – would go well with one of the vegetarian sides.

The Baked and Pickled Beetroot is a generous helping of tangy salad combining sweet and sour beetroot with harissa, organic yoghurt and toasted sunflower seeds for added nutrients and bite. It’s refreshing and delicate. But filling enough for a lunch dish and packed with vivid colour.

Another great veggie option is the Puy Lentils. These come with spinach, miso yoghurt and toasted buckwheat for a truly protein-rich and tasty lunch. Perfect to keep you feeling full until dinner.

Gluten-free? No problem. The staff are happy to accommodate any dietary requirements and will even make you gluten-free waffles for your main course or for one of their uber-indulgent waffle cone deserts.

Be warned. You may end up ordering quite a lot from this irresistible menu – so it might not be the cheapest lunch date. But when creative, seasonal dishes are made as easily accessible as Nandos – it’s definitely one to try.
