Fierce Grace | South

Brixton, Down Dog, Herne Hill

The Fierce Grace Yoga manifesto says it all… ‘We Will Not Om You’, no nonsense hot yoga for the typical Londoner. Find no gongs and om’s or preachy ‘holier than thou’ vibes here – just to the point, dynamic stretching in the heat.

Why do we love it? Because there’s something immensely satisfying in sweating out your entire body weight, contorting the body into positions it could never achieve at room temperature and wringing out organs until they’re clean as a whistle (so you can do last night all over again… kidding).

There are classes to suit a range of abilities from the advanced yogi to S.O.B (stiff, old and broken). Try Fierce Grace, an entry-level class to music full of hip openers, deep twists, upper body strengtheners and bum and ab toners. Wild – a cardio-yoga mash up with barre, resistance stretching and HIIT. Fierce (‘aka’ The Beast) for the hardened yogi or The Fix – a super-charged 50 minute class.

If you’re planning on squeezing in a session pre-brunch or dinner date you’ll be relieved to know they have showers here – 6 for men, 6 for women to be exact. A stone’s throw from Brixton Village why not re-fuel with a healthy crepe at Senzala (the galettes are made with buckwheat flour, free from gluten wheat, egg, lactose, dairy and suitable for vegetarians) or if it’s an evening affair head to Fujiyama for some tasty sashimi… they do takeaways too!
