Do you know your Big L from your Jay Z? Here’s how to re-live the golden era of hip hop with these totally dope activities, from boozy brunch to candlelit yoga…
Hip Hop brunch
This epic daytime party hosted by Hip Hop Brunch LDN features an hour of bottomless cocktails, dirty Southern-style grub and live DJs dropping some old skool hip hop beats. It takes place every Saturday and two Sundays a month at a secret London location.
Hip Hop karaoke
Unleash your inner Kanye every Thursday at the Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch where the UK’s original Hip Hip Karaoke has set up a weekly residency. If you need a bit of dutch courage, get there early to enjoy a few drinks before picking up the mic and spitting your favourite bars from a selection of more than 100 songs.
Hip Hop yoga
Hip hop and yoga may sound like an unlikely match but trust us it works – think Drake while downward dog and Snoop while you sun salutation. Try it out at FLY LDN, an immersive yoga studio in Aldgate, who offer a one-hour Candlelit Hip Hop Yoga class every Friday night at 6pm.
Hip Hop club nights & bars
We love Satan’s Whiskers in Bethnal Green, a character-filled cocktail bar that plays really cool 80s and 90s hip hop. But if you want somewhere to bust a move, head to The Old Queen’s Head in Angel which is transforming its 18th-century boozer into a hip hop party every Friday night throughout summer.
Hip Hop fast food
Fancy your fish and chips with a side of gangsta rap? Chip Shop BXTN is a hip hop-themed restaurant in Brixton boasting a non-stop hip hop playlist and the faces of 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G on its outside walls. Dine-in and takeaway service available.
