Liberty By Lily Allen - Plus Sex Positivity And Female Empowerment
Lily Allen joins sex toy brand Womanizer as their Chief Liberation Officer to help wipe out social stigma about sexuality and celebrate pleasure. “Sex toys are still seen as a taboo subject because they are related to masturbation and female pleasure. Female pleasure in itself is a taboo subject. The only way to make taboo subjects’ no longer taboo is to speak about them openly, frequently and without shame or guilt.” DOSE find out more about Liberty by Lily Allen, her journey to sexual positivity and female empowerment.
Lily Allen On Sex Positivity
In her continuing quest to create a more open, sex positive society Lily Allen has partnered with sex toy brand Womanizer to create her very own product, the ‘Liberty’. As their Chief Liberation Officer, Lily is leading the charge on Womanizer’s #IMasturbate campaign, raising awareness for sex positivity and female masturbation.
Lily’s relationship with Womanizer began when she mentioned using their products in her Sunday Times best-selling memoir My Thoughts Exactly.
Talking about discovering her own sexual pleasure while on the Sheezus tour. She wrote “And since you ask if I had to pick one vibrator above all the others, I recommend the Womanizer”, she said.
According to a recent Womanizer survey with 7,000 men and women from 14 countries, the international masturbation gap between the genders is still 68%. Men engage in the act about 156 times per year, while women only engage around 50 times a year on average.
Lily and Womanizer want to challenge existing assumptions and myths with the #IMasturbate campaign. And invite people to reflect on their own, often negative attitudes towards this topic.
How Often Do You Talk To Your Friends About Masturbating?
“I speak to my friends about masturbating quite regularly. My girlfriends probably more so than my male friends to be honest. Probably to make them feel less uncomfortable. Boys don’t really like talking about female masturbation that much”.
When Did You First Try Masturbation?
“I didn’t masturbate really at all until my late 20’s. But I started buying some sex toys at that point in my life and the Womanizer was quite an early introduction to my collection. Also I find it quite difficult to get myself to a place of pleasure until I found toys.
I was on tour in America and away from my partner for a long period of time. I think I was in New York and I walked past a sex shop and thought ‘maybe I’ll get involved in some of that’ and it was groundbreaking”.
Are Sex Toys Seen As A Taboo Subject?
“Sex toys are still seen as a taboo subject because they are related to masturbation and female pleasure. Female pleasure in itself is a taboo subject. The only way to make taboo subjects’ no longer taboo is to speak about them openly, frequently and without shame or guilt.”
How Important Are Sex Toys In Your Life?
“Sex toys play a very important role in my life in the sense that if I want a guaranteed orgasm, I will definitely reach for my toys. Even with a partner I find that toys can be quite a lot of fun as well.
What I love about this toy is that it really works and gives me an orgasm very quickly.
Women that haven’t tried sex toys before. I can only go by my own experience – and it changed by life so please go and try sex toys they are great fun!”
