Speedflex

Hidden in a back street between Bank and Monument station, find a low impact, high-intensity, cardio and resistance workout centred around one machine… Speedflex.

Don’t be too put off by the cheesy endorsements by TV personality Ben Shepherd and ex-footballer Alan Shearer… This is a good little cardio class that will appeal to fans of the Ski-Erg and VersaClimber.

This machine works in a similar way to provide a low impact, pain free workout that automatically responds to and creates resistance based on the force you put in.

But don’t expect a moody, nightclub style gym. Speedflex definitely suits a more mature clientele or those recovering from an injury, looking for a rehabilitative, pain free workout.

During the 45 minute class, you work the versatile piece kit to perform a range of moves from pull ups to weighted squats. These are paired with floor exercises, such as sit-ups, Bosu ball, kettle bells and step-ups for a full body workout.

Before the class you’ll receive a health assessment to measure blood pressure and fat percentage (including visceral fat – the stuff wrapped around your organs that you can’t see!). You’re then handed a heart-rate monitor to strap around your chest that tracks calories and heart rate throughout the session.

Results are displayed on the machine interface, as well as large screens around the room to help you train harder. Your trainer will encourage you to keep your heart rate to 85% so that you achieve maximum results and calorie burn, which can range between 500 – 1,000 calories.

For post workout fuel, head to We Grill – a mere 4 minute walk away. Or take a 10 minute stroll to Crrush, or Tossed.

Address: Plough Court, 33 – 36 Lombard Street, City of London, EC3V 9BQ
