Fitness, food and mental health with Tom Peters, Deliveroo
Tom Peters is the Global Director of New Business at Deliveroo – the online food delivery company based in the UK. In this podcast, he discusses the reward he gets from his work at Deliveroo, in particular fuelling frontline NHS workers, the food that gets him through his day and makes him the happiest, his love of rowing and fitness classes from Core Collective to Fly Ldn and his experience of therapy that helped him to cope with grief, after losing his parents in his early thirties.
In this podcast, Tom also discusses how healthy orders on Deliveroo have risen by 181% over the past 3 years – as a result, the company is investing £1M on boosting its healthy eating options. The desire for healthy choices, he says, is particularly prevalent among young people, with 90% of the 18-24-year-old age group saying they would buy food for delivery more regularly if there was a wider selection of healthy meals.
Tom also talks about how Deliveroo is launching several health-focused delivery-only brands, which will be licensed to restaurants to operate from their own kitchens. The takeaway tech firm is creating a series of new restaurant brands “from scratch”, each with its own name, logo, menu and recipes. The first of the new brands is called Dream Burger, promising a range of healthy, affordable and tasty burgers and sides including plant-based options. Each menu item has been created in partnership with nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert.
