Wake Up Call Fest: W Barcelona

 Why Trust Us

Disclosure

W have done it again. For the second time this year, W hotels hosted their WAKE-UP CALL Festival at W Barcelona. The festival kicked off in Hollywood to Barcelona and has since made its way over to Bali and plans to go to the W Dubai in 2019. Word on the street is it might be moving to their new hotel in Ibiza…

Expect all the luxuries from every W – friendly staff, glamorous guests, great food, plenty of drinks and only the best taste in music. They know how to set the scene…

We arrived on the Friday and were greeted by a wave of 26-degree heat. If you haven’t been to Barcelona, the vibrant city is steeped in history and oozing with culture, not to mention the fact it also boasts a beautiful beach, making for a perfect weekend getaway. If you have been, you’ll know that the W hotel is the beautifully big ship-sail shaped building at the end of the beach – you can’t miss it.

Already wowed by the location and the views, it was time to check-in and see what the room was like. A swanky suite with the back wall as a window, with views that overlooked the whole city, mountains, beach and sea – we were literally on top of Barcelona.

Once settled, we headed to Salt Beach Bar for lunch – one of the beach side bars/restaurants owned by the hotel. We then had a walk along the beach promenade to soak up the surroundings before prepping for the festival.

For welcome drinks and nibbles, the WOW suite lived up to its name. The equivalent of a president suite with a moving bed (think Austin Powers), a bath-tub looking out to sea and a huge balcony which wrapped around – we were certainly WOWed. Eventually, it was time to head down to the festival to enjoy live music from Gorgon city and Robin Shultz. If you wanted to carry on the party after hours – it was to the 26th floor to Eclipse – the top floor night club.

On our second day, we signed up to morning SUP yoga and Pilates – a gorgeous way to start the sunny day and cure some hangovers. Post-class – we headed to Salt Beach Bar again where we were given a Mimosa and encouraged to sit back and enjoy the views – I mean, we obliged of course.

We had lunch and drinks at Bravo24 – another of W hotel’s gorgeous restaurants. Following that, we were lucky enough to have a DJ Masterclass hosted by Kristina Dolgova, W Hotels Music Director and then on to enjoying some free time getting lost in the streets of Barcelona, paying a visit to the Sagrada Familia and embracing all the culture there was. We ended the afternoon by pampering ourselves in the Bliss Spa – absolute heaven.

For the final night of the festival – Pete Tong and Martin Solveig owned the Wet deck – everyone letting lose and having a great time. With the beach and sea as the backdrop, the W hotel glistening behind us and the crowd of party animals spread over the deck – what a scene to see.

And sadly the weekend was over before we knew it! If only we had time to go back to the Bliss spa to help with the post festival blues…

WAKE UP CALL FEST proved what we already knew. W certainly knows how to throw a party. The healthy hedonist concoction of food, fitness, spa, music and location made for a thrilling ride from start to finish. Until next time.
