Gyms to open 12th April 2021. At the same time as non-essential retail, hairdressers, nail salons and outdoor restaurants. Remember the furore it caused last time, when pubs reopened before gyms and how the fitness industry responded? While we wait on group classes to return from 17th May, in the meantime, we will be taking advantage of ‘open gym’ access in some of our favourite boutique studios across London…
Open gyms at 5 top London studios
What is an Open Gym?
Open Gym allows you to get back into studio training using equipment you don’t have at home. Here we round up 5 studios in London that are offering the service, to take us out of our homes and back into our favourite workout spaces. Coming out of lockdown never felt so good…
1. OPEN GYM AT BARRY’S
Finally, IRL. HIIT the red room with Barry’s Open Gym. Reserve a 75 minute time slot at Central, East, West and SW1 studios for your individual 50-minute pre-recorded audio guided workout. You have 75 minutes to complete your workout. Simply scan the QR codes for your Tread and Floor pre-recorded audio guided workout from your favourite London instructors. The audio will play on your own device so don’t forget your headphones.
You have the option to Double Floor or do your own thing. Remember to wear your mask when you’re not working out. You will not share equipment spots. Return weights at the end and the Barry’s team will deep clean all equipment between each session. Listen to our podcast with Barry’s Master Trainer Anya Lahiri.
2. OPEN GYM AT CORE COLLECTIVE
During 12 April – 16 May, take advantage of Core Collective’s Open Gym at the Kensington and St John’s Wood studios. You will get access to daily pre-programmed workouts in the spaces you love with all the kit you need. Book your hourly slot via the CC timetable at Kensington and St John’s Wood. Credits can be bought online and used for Live Stream classes or Open Gym slots. Studios will be deep cleaned between each hour slot.
The Core Collective Head Trainers will programme and write up several in-studio daily Workouts of the Day dependent on what equipment you are using. No need to bring your own equipment, you have full access to all of theirs. Coffee and Smoothies will be available to takeaway. Live Stream classes will continue 7 days a week until 16 May. No towels will be provided so bring your own for your workouts and if you wish to use their changing rooms. Listen to our podcast with Core Collective COO Héloïse Nangle.
3. OPEN GYM AT BLOK
Get back into studio training using equipment you don’t have at home at BLOK. Their expert instructors will be on hand to keep you safe every step of the way and to offer encouragement and coaching at every session. They’ll also have a ‘Workout of the Day’ up on the walls to guide you; so if you don’t feel like training independently or are unsure how best to use your time, inspiration will be at hand. Alternatively, if you want to follow one of the BLOKtv workouts then feel free to bring your phone or laptop with you – and don’t forget your headphones.
From Monday April 12th BLOK will be running 50 minute sessions from 7am through to 7:30pm in studio 3, where you’ll be able to work out on your own training mat with a selection of weights including 5kg, 7.5kg, 10kg, 12.5kg and 15kg.
Missing boxing? At least 2 sessions a day will be dedicated to boxing in their ‘Open Gym with Boxing Bag’ sessions, where you’ll have your own boxing bag, alongside a personal set of weights. Remember to bring your own boxing gloves or these will be available to purchase from reception.
4. OPEN GYM AT 1REBEL
Access audio led workouts available in select studios from 12th April. Rebel In Your Ear (1Rebel’s version of Open Gym) will run from 12th April in Broadgate, Bayswater, Angel and Victoria. Available for Reshape, Ride and Rumble, as an audio workout or come and use the equipment for your own sessions.
5. OPEN GYM AT FLEX CHELSEA
On 12th April, FLEX Chelsea is launching as an Open Gym, enabling you to undertake your own workout in a safe, fully-equipped environment. Qualified instructors will be on hand with a Workout Of The Day if you’re unsure of how to structure your own.
Enjoy the atmosphere and equipment of their yoga, spin and HIIT studios, as well as their strength training zones. Personal Training is also available for those not ready to step into the space unguided.
